Seriously, the Palazzo is one heck of a resort. I think I am on my fourth stay in either the Palazzo or the neighbouring Venetian, they are basically the same hotel but with two checkin areas. For those who have never been, let me set a scene of canals, gondalas, two enormous casinos with pokies stretching over the horizon and more gaming tables than you can imagine. The hotel is massive and the whole place appears to be built out of finest Italian marble, which indeed many parts of it are.
If casino games are your bag, you could spend weeks in these two giant casinos and never be bored, they have pretty much every type of pokie ever made, from old classics to the latest movie tie in ones. Some of the jackpots are literally obscene! Tens of millions of dollars available on some of them. Genuine life changing amounts for the spin of a pokie. All of the public areas have a smell. I don’t mean that in a bad way, like you are following a tramp around, they have a signature ‘odour’ (there must be a better word) that they pump through the air conditioning system, sounds weird right? It isn’t, you will soon stop noticing it, but will miss it when you venture into other casinos.
The hotel bedrooms, or should I say suites are exactly that, suites. If you book a twin you get two double beds, if you book a king you get a bed big enough to land a 747 on. My rooms have typically had a huge bathroom with a separate shower and a TV at the foot of the bath, then a bedroom with walk in closet, big double king bed for me, I like to stretch out. There is a large TV on the wall in the bedroom, then down a couple of steps to a huge L shaped sofa which you could sleep 2 people on, and another massive TV, a desk with wifi and printer.
Here’s a sneaky tip for you, works in any Vegas hotel. If you want a fridge in your room, you won’t be able to move everything out of the mini bar as they will auto charge you for it, just ring down to reception and ask them to bring one up for “medicines”, 5 minutes later a small fridge will be delivered to your room. Very handy for your own supply of cokes and beers!
Don’t pack loads of toiletries if travelling to Vegas, particularly to the Palazzo or Venetian, not particularly because the free ones in the room are great (but they are), but because there is a chemist / pharmacy (Walgrens) at the foot of the Palazzo exit (Wynn side), so stock up there rather than the hotel gift shop (or should that be shoppe, I think so).
I cannot recommend the Ventian or Palazzo highly enough, and I have not even begun to talk about restaurants, bars and shopping yet.
On my last trip I casually fed $20 into a Pokie (Da Vinci Diamonds), whilst sitting playing I was furnished with free drinks, which made my eventual $4500 win all the more sweet! Straight to a jewellers in the shops area, bought myself a new watch! That to me is Vegas in a nutshell, and I just happened to be in the very best Nutshell in town.
